Read The Only Girl in the Room Real Life Tales of One Woman Climb Up the Corporate Ladder Nancy L Bullock 9781519399564 Books
The Only Girl In The Room humorously wrestles with one small town girl’s desire for success, the reality of the business world for women and how we need to make changes for the future health of our culture and economy to allow room for BOTH men and women, in the same room, at the same table, side by side. The reflections shared in this book are a compilation of the often comical observations, situations and tensions Nancy experienced in her own up and down business career - specifically around the myriad of ideas imprinted from her mother’s unrealized ambitions, the ideas she had been bathed in from the 60’s and 70’s mass media, ideas picked up from the culture-at-large and ideas she formulated based on her own personal ambitions about what “a woman’s business career should and would look like starting out in 1981.â€

The Only Girl in the Room Real Life Tales of One Woman Climb Up the Corporate Ladder Nancy L Bullock 9781519399564 Books Reviews
- This is a witty and insightful account of how the business world handles an outsider with the “balls†to aspire to a position in one of the “C†suites of corporate America. The author is charmingly naive as a hopeful college graduate in 1981, but after three decades of battering, she emerges battle-scarred but optimistic about the prospects of women in positions of leadership. Somehow she manages to maintain her sense of humor despite being called “a bull in a china closet†and “too loud, too aggressive and too tall.â€
The personal stories and her emotional reactions make this a powerful and compelling book. We hear about a long term relationship with a mentor, and the ups and downs of mentoring a friend through multiple jobs. We also get a peek into the positive side of leading a team, including an annual Screaming Flying Monkeys contest and rules for using humor as a boss.
I highly recommend this book for anyone (woman or man) working in the corporate world, or anyone who knows someone in that world. - An amusing, insightful and sometimes heartrending tale of the author's life experience in the business world. Those who have shared these experiences will relate to it, whereas it offers unique advice to women who are joining the world of business now.
- I loved reading about the trials and wisdom of this woman from my generation and think that it has insights that will benefit women of all ages. A quick read that is well worth it.
- The Only Girl in the Room is book to be read by men and women, boys and girls. One of the most thoughtful and intriguing stories about being an outsider in quite a while. This books speaks to so many different people who have faced this scenario in one form or another. The best part of it is the author has a very interesting and bold sense of humor. I have a 6 year old daughter who I plan to read this to in another year or so. In life there are people who pioneer paths that others eventually follow and those followers often do not realize why the path is so smooth. This is the story of one such path. Btw, I bought this book on and I do love reading on a . But in this particular instance, you may want to pick up the hard cover because the cover is just very cool.
- This book truly resonated with me and my experiences in corporate America. Definitely a great read for my daughter as she will start navigating the work world in a few years. I highly recommend! You will find yourself nodding in agreement and laughing out loud.
- I loved this book. It's important for women to have examples, mentors, roll models as they navigate worlds that have been Men's domains for so long and Nancy provides a lot of insight.
- A fun read and valuable insight into the true climate of the C-suite. If you are a woman in the workforce or know a woman in the workforce, you owe it to yourself to read this.
- Fun, witty, and inspirational. If you are a working girl, you can relate. A fun way to look at challenges that we have all faced at one time or another in the workplace.
